It is formed by the reaction of carbon monoxide and calcium hydroxide or formaldehyde with calcium compound contained in an aqueous solution. Calcium formate is used, among other things, as an aggregate for cementitious building materials, as an additive for processing oil emulsions or as an additive for animal feed.
